Limited Run Games and developer Whoopee Camp announced side-scrolling action game Tomba! will receive an enhanced release for modern platforms. Fans can expect Tomba! to land on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and PC via Steam in the near future.
Tomba! originally released on December 25, 1997 for the original PlayStation console in Japan. The classic PlayStation title would launch on July 16, 1998 in North America and August 28, 1998 in Europe. Although Tomba! remained in obscurity for more than two decades, the game will finally return in an enhanced port.
Tomba! Revealed for Modern Platforms
During the Limited Run Games summer showcase, the company announced Tomba! is coming back with an enhanced re-release. Director, designer, and producer Takuro Fujiwara is working with Limited Run Games to develop the title with the company’s signature Carbon Engine. Original composer Fujita Harumi returns to score a new soundtrack for the upcoming release.

Alongside creator Tokuro Fujiwara to bring the beloved platformer Tomba! to modern consoles via the Carbon Engine, with a new OST by the legendary Fujita Harumi,” Limited Run Games said on Twitter. “More info about the physical & digital releases to come.”

Limited Run Games is also releasing Shantae Advance: Risky Revolution, the long-lost sequel to the original Shantae game. This sequel takes place between the events of 2002’s original Shantae and 2010’s Shantae: Risky’s Revenge. Shantae protects Sequin Land from Risky Boots and her devious plan. The titular protagonist must harness new technology and the knowledge of the Relic Hunters to stop Risky Boots. The upcoming Game Boy Advance title will be released in cartridge form via Limited Run Games in early 2024.
Lastly, Tomba! is coming soon to Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and PC via Steam. A release date has not been announced.
