Today, the season 2 finale of Vinland Saga aired. Titled ‘Home’, we saw Thorfinn return to his home in Iceland for the first time since the very beginning of the series. As a celebration of the finale, Character Designer and Chief Animation Director Takahiko Abiru released new art of Thorfinn, as seen at the end of season 2. What some might not be expecting in this was a tease for Vinland Saga season 3.
Vinland Saga Season 3 Teased
It’s not much at first glance until you look closely at the Vinland Saga logo. Abiru has highlighted three lines of blue in the logo itself, resembling “III”, or season 3. Additionally, his tweet confirmed we would see Thorfinn again, and this is not the end. You can read his message below:
My gratitude goes to you as all staff members were able to continue making this work without giving up until today. I’d like to extend my appreciation to the fans all around the world that love VINLAND SAGA. Thank you so much! …Thorfinn’s journey will continue.
Vinland Saga originally premiered in 2019, with production handled by Wit Studio. Led by Director Shuuhei Yabuta, the team produced an incredible adaptation of the War Arc, better known as the Prologue. Director Yabuta then left for MAPPA in 2020, where he rejoined the same core staff to create season 2. Once again, the team has delivered an unreal adaptation that beautifully adapts one of the most beloved manga series ever.
When Will Vinland Saga Season 3 Release?
It’s hard to tell when exactly we could see the release of season 3. The gap between seasons 1 and 2 was over three years, and that does seem possible for the production of season 3. Since the team hopefully won’t be moving studios again, it is possible that production could take less time for this season.
We won’t know anything until we receive confirmation of season 3 officially from the Vinland Saga production staff. Stay tuned for news surrounding this exciting upcoming release here at Final Weapon!
