Sonic the Hedgehog is getting a new 2D adventure featuring four playable characters! In addition to Sonic, Sonic Superstars will let players take control of Tails, Knuckles, and Amy Rose. Sonic’s friends will be able to team up if players so choose as well. As players collect Chaos Emeralds, it appears they will unlock new abilities. This means you won’t have to wait until you collect all seven of them for the Chaos Emeralds to be useful. These abilities include multiplying and swimming up waterfalls, with presumably more yet to be revealed.
Sonic Superstars will be the first new 2D game in the series since 2017’s Sonic Mania. Unlike Mania, however, the game will feature entirely 3D-rendered visuals for a slightly more modern look. Despite this, the general aesthetic of the game still resembles the art style of classic 2D Sonic games. Sonic fans will be able to enjoy this game with 3 other players via local co-op.
