As mentioned at the beginning, this episode will see Thorfinn withstand 100 blows in order to gain the opportunity to speak with King Canute. He told the King’s Guard in Episode 21 that Canute knows who he is and they have a history; however, none of the guards believed him and subjected him to the bet of 100 blows to earn the opportunity to speak with Canute.
