For the first time in over a decade, a new Indiana Jones movie is finally coming out. Believe it or not, the movie franchise has a long-running history in video games, from the Lego games to the games that take inspiration from point-and-click adventures and Tomb Raider. But in 2021, a brand new Indiana Jones game was announced. Since its announcement, however, there has been little to no information on what the game will hold. So, before the Xbox/Bethesda Showcase and the next Indiana Jones movie, here’s everything you need to know about the next Indiana Jones game.
Who’s Developing It?
Bethesda will publish it in a joint arrangement between MachineGames and Lucasfilm Games. It was first announced on Bethesda’s official Twitter back in 2021, along with the following press statement: “Today, Lucasfilm Games and Bethesda Softworks announced a new Indiana Jones game, being developed by the award-winning studio, MachineGames, and executive produced by game industry icon Todd Howard of Bethesda Games Studios.”
MachineGames is known primarily for its work on the new Wolfenstein games, namely Wolfenstein the New Order/Colossus. The new releases were known for their high-speed combat and frantic gameplay. It ended up staying true to the genre that the original Wolfenstein revolutionized. And as for Todd Howard, he needs no introduction as the creative mind behind franchises like Fallout, The Elder Scrolls, and the upcoming Starfield.
When is the Indiana Jones Game coming out?
It’s likely due to Todd Howard’s involvement that we don’t currently have any information on the game’s release date. Barring any internet memes about Howard and how his games “just work,” he’s currently working on three games at the same time. Starfield is coming this year, and The Elder Scrolls 6 is coming “when it’s ready.” Additionally, there’s Indiana Jones. Those are just the games we know about at the moment. There is also Fallout 5, which Howard quietly confirmed would be coming out after the next Elder Scrolls.
At the moment, it’s impossible to tell when the next Indiana Jones game will be released. But there is always the chance that we could learn more about Indiana Jones at the next Xbox showcase.
