SEGA and Paramount Pictures announced the Sonic the Hedgehog movie series spinoff Knuckles has begun filming in London. Idris Elba, the renowned actor for Knuckles the Echidna in Sonic the Hedgehog 2, will reprise his role for the new TV series.
Knuckles Filming Begins
A new report by Variety reveals more reprised roles for the new Knuckles TV series alongside Elba as Knuckles. The cast includes Adam Pally as Wade Whipple and Tika Sumpter as Maddie. Additionally, these actors are joined by Edi Patterson, Julian Barratt, Scott Mescudi, Ellie Taylor, and Rory McCann. According to the series tagline, Knuckles “agrees to train Wade as his protégé and teach him the ways of the Echidna warrior.” The Knuckles TV series takes place after Sonic the Hedgehog 2 and before Sonic the Hedgehog 3.
Sonic the Hedgehog and Sonic the Hedgehog 2 director Jeff Fowler returns to direct the first episode of Knuckles and executively produce the entire series. Sonic the Hedgehog 2 screenwriter John Whittington wrote the pilot episode and will serve as head writer and executive producer. Further, Brian Schacter and James Madejski will be on the writing team assisting John Whittington.
The first Sonic the Hedgehog movie premiered in February 2020, and the sequel would follow in April 2022. These films earned over $405 million at the box office. Sonic the Hedgehog 3 premieres in theaters on December 20, 2024.
Sonic Frontiers, the latest game in the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise, will receive two new updates in 2023. The first of these two remaining updates will include a Sonic birthday celebration, Open Zone Challenge, and new Koco. Additionally, Sonic Team director Morio Kishimoto confirms the beloved Spin Dash ability returns in the new update.
Lastly, Sonic Frontiers is available now for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam worldwide.
