Xenoblade Chronicles 3 Is the Fastest Selling Game in the Series

MonolithSoft's latest title marks a new era for the popular series.

During Nintendo’s Q2 financial report, it was disclosed that Xenoblade Chronicles 3 has become the fastest selling game in the series. The latest title from Tetsuya Takahashi and MonolithSoft has surpassed 1.72 million copies sold.

Xenoblade has come incredibly far since the series intitially released in the United States thanks to Project Rainfall. The first title in the series was released on the Nintendo Wii in North America during 2012. That game later released on the New Nintendo 3DS, and was eventually remastered and brought to the Nintendo Switch. Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition, which released in May of 2020, stands at 1.68 million units. That is now passed by Xenoblade Chronicles 3, almost eight times faster.

Xenoblade Chronicles 2 still stands as the best selling game in the series, with over 2 million copies sold. While we have not gotten an update recently, it is probably safe to assume the game might be close to 2.5 million copies now or even past that. The last update from Nintendo was in November 2020. This was obviously before Xenoblade Chronicles 3, but more importantly this was even before Pyra & Mythra’s inclusion in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate as DLC. Pyra & Mythra were revealed and introduced in early 2021, which undoubtedly caused a huge spike in sales.

    More Content to Come

Xenoblade Chronicles 3 still has two DLC waves left to go. One of which is a massive story expansion, most likely something like Torna ~ The Golden Country. It is realistic to expect this game to reach potentially 3 million copies in its lifetime. It is already halfway there in only 2 months of reporting, and with the holidays fastly approaching that number could jump significantly by the next financial report.
