PlayStation has created a new ‘game preservation’ team according to the newly hired Senior Build Engineer Garrett Fredley. Fredley previously worked at studios such as EA and Kabam before taking his passion of game preservation to PlayStation. The new senior developer shared his excitement via Twitter:
“Today is my first day as a Senior Build Engineer at @PlayStation, working as one of their initial hires for the newly created Preservation team! Game Preservation was my first career passion, so I’m ecstatic that I get to go back to those roots”
Details surrounding the new team’s goals and work remains to be seen. However, it could be related to PlayStation’s upcoming tiered PlayStation Plus service. The Premium Tier of PlayStation Plus offers classic PS1, PS2 and PSP games once it goes live. Hopefully, game preservationists influence PlayStation to pursue more games to release and archive.
