Cave ceases smartphone committee development, cancels mobile game by director Okamoto

Japanese developer Cave announced that the ‘Smartphone Game Production Committee’ is ceasing production and development with liquidation to be completed by July 31st. Additionally, the new mobile game led by director Yoshiki Okamoto within the committee has been cancelled. Cave’s Smartphone Game Production Committee originally started in March 2020 as a joint investment venture with Dera Game and TV Asahi. The newly founded venture would fund production of a new mobile game by former Capcom developer and current Cave director Yoshiki Okamoto. Development of the new game was running smoothly according to Cave. However, it was determined that overall quality would be lacking due to decreasing funds and prolonged development. As a result, remaining funds would be allocated to a new mobile game internally at Cave (Thanks, 4Gamer). The Touhou Project game currently in development by Cave is unaffected.
