In some rather unfortunate news reported by IGN Japan, former Nintendo producer Masayuki Uemura passed away at age 78 on December 6th 2021. Uemura was also an engineer at Nintendo starting in 1971. He would later become the lead of the second R&D division, responsible for the creation and development of NES & SNES at the company. Uemura left Nintendo in 2004 to found the Ritsumeikan University Game Research Center in Japan. His impact in the gaming industry is everlasting as he helped propel Nintendo to the forefront of gaming in the 80’s and 90’s. Thank you for the incredible contributions to the gaming industry, Uemura-san.
