Gundam Cafés across Japan are closing down by end of March 2022

Bandai announced that they’re closing all Gundam Cafés across Japan by the end of March 2022. This applies for both physical cafés and the online web store. First, the Osaka Gundam Square is closing on January 10th 2022 followed by the Akihabara Tokyo Brand Café, Odaiba and Fukuoka outlets on January 30th. The Gundam Café in Yokohama remains active until March 31st alongside the web store (Thanks, Siliconera).

Bandai didn’t specify the exact reason the cafés are shutting down. However, it’s likely a result of effects from the coronavirus pandemic. In addition, Bandai states that Gundam fans can look forward to new venues as part of their new project coming soon. This new project provides fans with new places to gather and communicate across Japan with similar experiences to the Gundam Cafés.
