Major art design improvements promised for Babylon’s Fall, phase 2 closed beta begins September 10th

In a new report by Square Enix and PlatinumGames, the development team detailed the next closed beta and improvements to be made to Babylon’s Fall! The first closed beta has concluded and the phase 2 closed beta begins soon. This time, players on PS4 will be able to try our Babylon’s Fall alongside Steam players. The phase 2 closed beta begins on September 10th at 19:30 JST to 22:00 JST in Japan. North America receives the beta on the following day, September 11th, at 7:30 PM PDT to 10 PM PDT. Square Enix also shared details and feedback following the results of the first closed beta. Among one of the major areas of contention is the game’s art design. During the gameplay reveal, many fans were questioned the art direction and visibility of Babylon’s Fall. The game features an “art painting” like style but ultimately hampers the experience for players as detailed by the report. As a result, PlatinumGames and Square Enix will be addressing this with “major improvements to the art”. The game will retain its art painting-like design but will be improved with a more clean, visible design. Here’s what director Saito had to say:

We’ve received feedback that the current brushwork filter impedes visibility, and have received requests to change it. Throughout development, one of our aims has been to make players feel immersed in a painted world reminiscent of classic fantasy art. We now see that the balance between the painted world concept and visibility needs further adjustment.

The development team is working on some major improvements to the art – we’ll be considering visibility as a top priority, alongside the original concept of an atmosphere that feels like stepping into a painting.

At the moment, we’re working on additional features to support these changes, as well as the associated adjustments to all the environments. I apologize for the wait, but this may take some time.
