In a new interview during Dropped Frames, Phil Spencer chimed in on the Killer Instinct franchise. According to Spencer, Xbox wants to make a new game in the fighting game franchise. However, Spencer elaborates by saying that Xbox needs the right team and opportunity to develop a new Killer Instinct game. Double Helix, previous co-developers of Killer Instinct for Xbox One with Iron Galaxy, were purchased by Amazon so more fighting game development talent needs to be brought on for a new project. We hope the right developers come along to make this new game come to fruition.
