Final Fantasy XIV: Endwalker’s Reaper job was inspired by Bleach and Death Note according to Naoki Yoshida

In a recent interview at Buffed, Naoki Yoshida shared his thoughts on the upcoming Reaper job for Final Fantasy XIV: Endwalker. According to Yoshida, he listened to a lot of player feedback over the years about potential scythe weapons that would be a great addition to the game. The time came to develop new jobs for FFXIV and Reaper seemed like a good choice to address feedback and wants from players. Yoshida states that anime/manga like Bleach and Death Note influenced their decision making for the Reaper class. For the class quest line, its implied that the Reaper (player) and “Avatar” will have a Light and Ryuk type of relationship. Lastly, the full interview with Naoki Yoshida is available here.
