Rumor: A new Metroid game is coming later this year, new Switch hardware reveal coming soon this summer

*Update* Takashi Mochizuki from Bloomberg has corroborated the rumor with more specific details! According to his report, a new Switch model is coming to replace the current $299 model. The system is coming in September-October with an announcement possibly coming before E3 2021. We expect more details to come very soon if this is true.

*Original article* The latest rumor comes from NateDrake (Direct Feed Games) via ResetEra and Emily Rogers. According to Rogers, she’s confident that a new Metroid game is coming this year around August to October. We assume this is a new 2D Metroid game as Metroid Prime’s development is still ongoing. In addition, a new Switch hardware reveal is coming very soon. Rogers states that the reveal could happen as soon as before E3 to a few weeks after E3. Here are her exact words according to NateDrake:

“Hey Resetera! With E3 coming up, I thought it would be a good time to clear up a few things.

Based on everything I know, I’m pretty confident that Metroid is a lock for this year. The developers have already moved on to a new project. It’s likely to release anytime between August through October. The big question is: Does it get announced at E3 in June or a September Direct? Keep in mind that Nintendo has a history of releasing games one month after announcing them.

In other news, an announcement for new Switch hardware is imminent. A hardware announcement is right around the corner. It could either be announced before E3 or a few weeks after E3. Either way, it doesn’t sound like we’ll be waiting long for news.”

Things are surely getting interesting in the gaming industry leading up to E3 2021. This is still a rumor though so please take this with a grain of salt until we see what Nintendo has in store at E3. In the meantime, stay tuned at Final Weapon for the latest Japanese gaming news and updates!
