In a new series of reports by VGC, Naughty Dog shared the company’s outlook on multi-project development and the Jak & Daxter franchise. According to co-president Evan Wells, they’ve gotten many requests by fans to make a new Jax & Daxter game. Unfortunately, the company is not working on anything for the franchise but Wells says the studio “wishes” they were. There’s still a lot of love for Jak & Daxter at Naughty Dog and looking at Insomniac’s Ratchet & Clank series makes them wish they had a project like they right now:

“And I hate to break it to them, [but] we do not have Jak & Daxter here in development right now.

But we still love the characters and I see what you guys [at Insomniac] are doing with Ratchet and that makes me wish that we did, and we would have one in development, because there’s still a lot of love for Jak & Daxter in the studio.”

On the other hand, Naughty Dog has several games stuck in pre-production. The company is currently struggling with multi-project development as they usually favor one project over another. This is due to the resources and time they have to put toward their main project at one time. Here’s what Evan Wells had to say:

“They embarked on that and the idea was we would build a team around it and have two teams going at once, and we just did not achieve that at all.

The amount of effort that was required to finish Uncharted 3 at the time was stealing resources away from The Last of Us, and we never got to the point where we had two full productions going.

I would say even today we’re just short of that. We definitely have multiple projects, but only one that is getting the lion’s share of focus at any time.

We don’t have two projects that have several hundred people on them. We have one [project] and then some that are in pre-production, or maybe just creeping out of pre-production, but will have to wait until the main focus has completed before we move everybody off of that project.”

We can assume that the main project in focus right now is The Last of Us Remake which has split the community of fans. Meanwhile, Jax & Daxter fans only have a sliver of hope left for the duo’s return. Stay tuned at Final Weapon for the latest gaming news and support us on Patreon!
