Super Mario 3D World was one of the most successful games on Wii U. However, the success really didn’t mean much as the Wii U had poor lifetime sales overall. In Japan, the original game on Wii U has been surpassed! Super Mario 3D World+ Bowser’s Fury on Switch surpassed 620,000 retail units sold in Japan alone. This beats the Wii U version by roughly 18,000 units in a small fraction of time out in the market. Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury took only 8 weeks to reach that point.
