Playtonic Games teases rebranding for “good reason” in 2021 backer update through Kickstarter

A recent backer update from Playtonic Games has surfaced, with some very interesting details regarding some of Playtonic’s plans for the new year. The update states: “One of the things we’re doing is a rebrand….. exciting hey – let us know if you want slides and graphs too, but there is a good reason for us doing so, my dear Playtonic friends… all will be revealed soon!“. You can check out the update, which was posted on Twitter earlier tonight, below.

Playtonic is known for Yooka-Laylee and Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair! Both titles are available across PC, PS4, Xbox, and Switch. Their first title, Yooka-Laylee, was introduced as a spiritual successor to the beloved Banjo-Kazooie, with many original staff members coming back to work on the title. Their second title, Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair, saw the return of Yooka and Laylee in 2D platforming versus the prior 3D platformer, Yooka-Laylee.

Yooka-Laylee was released on April 11, 2017 following a successful Kickstarter campaign, and was later released on the Nintendo Switch on December 14th, 2017. Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair was released across all platforms on October 8th, 2019.
