Tetsuya Nomura says there will be a “small break” for Kingdom Hearts announcements, working toward KH 20th Anniversary announcements for 2022

Dengeki Online recently had the opportunity to interview Kingdom Hearts series director Tetsuya Nomura. In the interview, Nomura shared his thoughts about next-gen consoles and the KH series leading up to the 20th anniversary! First, Nomura says new titles for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S are tentative. He wants those future games to be stunning and reflect the capabilities of next-gen hardware. Many PS5 games have been announced and Nomura doesn’t want to “lose to them” in any regards.

On the other hand, Nomura is putting the KH series on a “small break”. This is due to the work needed for the Kingdom Hearts 20th anniversary which will come around in 2022. Nomura further states that the team and Square Enix are working toward what’s coming in 2022 so fans will have to stay tuned. We might see new announcements later into 2021 but only time will tell.

In the meantime, stay tuned at Final Weapon for the latest Japanese gaming news and updates!
