Level 5 has shutdown its North America operations, “no concrete plans”

It seems like Level 5 is in some turmoil according to Gamesindustry.biz. The company has seemingly shuttered its operations in North America with “no concrete plans to release games outside of Japan”. Employees from the spin-off company based in NA, Level 5 Abby, were laid off last year and essentially told that the studio would be closing down. Additionally, head of Abby and COO Yukari Hayakawa is said to have left the company earlier this year.

Level 5 has not confirmed this information publically yet but the news so far is looking grim. This whole scenario lines up with the lack of information about upcoming Level-5 localizations like Yokai Watch 4. A best case scenario for Level 5 games releasing in the west would be through another publisher similar to Bandai Namco’s Ni no Kuni releases.
