MonolithSoft President Sugiura Hirohide – Xenogears 2 didn’t happen because of Final Fantasy: Spirits Within, MonolithSoft founded to make Xenogears 2

In the June 4th edition of Famitsu, the team sat down and interviewed MonolithSoft President Sugiura Hirohide, where he talked quite a bit about the company’s past. He talked in the interview about plans for Xenogears 2, and how it did not happen because of Square’s investment in the film industry (which he is referring to Final Fantasy: Spirits Within here).

He then goes on to talk about how MonolithSoft was founded to actually make Xenogears 2, but if you’re familiar with MonolithSoft’s past, you know this unfortunately never happened. Instead, MonolithSoft developed Xenosaga Episode I, working closely with Namco. This led to Episode II and Episode III, but President Sugiura Hirohide mentions that due to income management and expenditure involved with Xenosaga Episode I, “difficult decisions” had to be made for Xenosaga Episode II.
