Spike Chunsoft and Acquire have released new details about Katana Kami’s swordplay! In addition, new screenshots are available. The game follows a basic pattern of combat: attackers, receivers, and breakers.
- Attacker – light and heavy attacks
- Receiver – evade and guard
- Breaker – kick and throw to break defenses
Drawing and sheathing can be used in combat too. Having a sword drawn means the player is always ready to attack. Sheathing a sword makes it difficult to attack but will enable a buff into drawing the sword.
There are a total of 9 stances in the game which each have their own advantages and special effects. Over 100 swords are in the game as well.
Two special actions are present in the game: Katana Time and Kiwami. Katana Time occurs when filling up the Orb Gauge. Kiwami occurs when timed correctly and successfully dodging or defending. Counter attacking after timely dodging or defending will grant the Kiwami attack. After defeating the enemy with a Kiwami attack, Consecutive Kiwami can be used with right timing to defeat more enemies.
Katana Kami: A Way of the Samurai Story releases in early 2020 for PS4, Switch and PC in Japan. A western release date is unknown but the game has been rated in Australia. Stay tuned at Final Weapon for the latest Japanese gaming news!
