Katanakami keeps the action packed hack and slash combat from the Way of the Samurai series and puts it in isometric view. Players can experience various styles of combat involving the katana and other weapons. Dungeons are automatically generated in the game and can be entered at night. Evil spirits roam in the Japanese-style worlds within the dungeons.
Players manage a blacksmith by building and selling weapons. Materials to build these weapons are gathered in the dungeons. A feature called “If War Occurs, the Blacksmith Profits” will appear at times within the game. In this system, conflicts between the Akadama Clan, Kurou Family and Post Town will occur based around the mountain. A huge amount of katanas must be forged in this event to help the business thrive.
Lastly, Katanakami features a day-night cycle. During the day, the player works to earn money to pay off debt to rescue the blacksmith’s daughter. At night, the player gathers weapons and materials from the pine tree and dungeons.
Katanakami releases for PS4, PC and Switch in early 2020 in Japan. Currently, a western release date is unknown. Stay tuned at Final Weapon for more of the latest in Japanese gaming news!
