CyberConnect2 proposed requests to port .hack//G.U. Last Recode to Switch but Bandai Namco denied them

.hack fans might not be happy with this news as it seems Bandai Namco doesn’t see much interest in the franchise moving to new platforms. CyberConnect2 stated that the company actively proposed to bring .hack//G.U. Last Recode to Switch, but Bandai Namco denied the requests to do so. Here’s what CyberConnect2 CEO Hiroshi Matsuyama had to say:

“‘Have you ever thought of porting .hack//G.U. Last Recode to Switch?’ Of course, we have! We have actually made the proposal multiple times! Even during the production of Last Recode for PS4, we knew that Nintendo Switch was a huge hit all over the world and there was talk of releasing the game on Switch.

But I don’t know if you are aware of this, but .hack series have always been released exclusively for PlayStation. Of course, Last Recode was released not only on PS4, but also on Steam. So it’s available on the digital distribution service on PC as well. But because of our long-standing relationship with Sony, I understand that it was difficult to release it on Switch then at the same time. But the idea of releasing Last Recode on Nintendo Switch itself is appealing.

Frankly speaking, we’d love to do that. We have proposed the idea to Bandai Namco Entertainment Inc. several times. But their response was… that it’s hard to predict the cost of porting and the sales prospects… For this reason, we were told that they were not able to make it happen and as a result, we haven’t been able to…

So I highly encourage you, the users of Nintendo Switch, to contact Bandai Namco directly and let them know that you want to play .hack//G.U. Last Recode on Switch! The more requests, the better! Your requests might be able to change their mind because they value fans’ feedback the most. Of course, we will continue to make this request as well but we would love your support! We also want to release the game on Switch! Thank you for your support.”

.hack//G.U. Last Recode should be on more platforms like Switch and Xbox so lets hope that happens in the near future. Stay tuned at Final Weapon for the latest Japanese gaming news!
