Amid Nintendo’s 79th Annual General Meeting of Shareholders, the company gave a statement regarding the rumors of an upcoming Switch Mini.

Nintendo, when asked about the reports on the Switch Mini, declined to comment in order to not ruin the surprise. The company did mention how they are “always developing new hardware”. This doesn’t come as much of a surprise, as Nintendo is also a hardware company. It’s still interesting to see Nintendo acknowledge the rumors.

Below is the translation of Nintendo’s exact statement, transcribed by NStyles.

“We acknowledge that there have been reports [about this]. Answering to rumours and speculations would end up stealing surprises from our customers and also be unprofitable to all of our shareholders, so we have no answer to that. As a general theory, we are always performing development of new hardware.”

Although this could mean a new Switch revision is coming soon, it’s more likely that Nintendo is simply addressing the reports from several reputable news sources. Macronix International, one of Nintendo’s top suppliers, recently told the Taipei Times that Nintendo ordered exponentially more components in 2019 than estimated.

It’s also likely that Nintendo wants to crack down on these rumors, in order to continue Nintendo Switch sales and ensure that people won’t hold off until a new revision. Either way, something is definitely in the works at Nintendo.
